Loudness war
David Smith
The volume of your system won’t change the compression of a recording/mastering.

David Smith And I'm not going to change the compression. There's no need for that. Digital volume level before conversion to dac! This is the emphasis, not the regulators in the amplifier. I did it with -3 db in the Benchmark dac1. Positive result on sound of music with low dr

"There is no need for that"? Uhm... That compression is the entire problem.

Uhm... no, it won't.
Please visit https://dynamicrangeday.co.uk/ for what the loudness war actually does to music. Lowering the volume won't solve the problem.

Anonamemouse It helps if dac has such a regulator before signal is converted. It helps if you lower level in editor. It will help if there is such an adjustment in Aurender. Vocal become pleasant to ear. Low dynamic range does not change, but nature of quiet sounds and vocals changes for better. This is well heard when system has high resolution and power supply filtering using separating transformers. The presence of this function should be in system.

Anonamemouse You don't understand what I'm writing to you. Read it again. Modern mastering doesn't sound like shit, you just don't understand the basics.

I accidentally deleted my reply, apologies for that.
I do understand what you are talking about, and you are incorrect. You own a Benchmark DAC 1, which is an okay DAC. I have a Benchmark DAC 3B myself, which is their current top model because it is stripped to the bare minimum. Lowering volume BEFORE the DAC can only be done properly in 32 bits (which the Aurender players are not designed for), which means several conversions which WILL alter the sound. In my opinion, ANY alteration of the sound is a NO GO.
This also is why I will NEVER use ROON.
I have worked in a studio long enough to know everything about the basics.

Anonamemouse I'm glad to your experience, bro. I don't use roon either. Just files in Aurender. But there is still a home experience and what we hear with our ears. Dac1 was gathering dust in the pantry for a long time, and I liked the result. With different home experience, I have no special complaints about modern mastering with low dr. Modern mastering can be sound a little nicer. This function can be activated or may not be activated in Aurender. But it's worse for sure
